MISSION
Baltimore Hunger Project (BHP) is dedicated to eliminating the growing problem of weekend childhood hunger by feeding bodies and minds. They are bridging the gap between Friday and Monday by consistently providing weekend food packages to children identified as food insecure, in a compassionate and dignified manner. They raise awareness about the effects of hunger by establishing partnerships with community members, other organizations, and decision makers.
Can you imagine children without hunger in our community?
BACKGROUND
After years of providing thousands of lunches to homeless women and children from her garage and giving back to Baltimore in varying other ways, Founder and Executive Director Lynne B. Kahn, realized that solving poverty is complex, but feeding children is not. With dedicated volunteers, Baltimore Hunger Project (BHP) has been keeping kids full and in the classroom since November 2014.

AMID THE Pandemic
Prior to the pandemic, BHP was supporting 648 food-insecure children each week in 24 schools in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. But, with pandemic BHP’s need increased by 400%! They now support 2,300 children every week and have provided over 31,000 weekend bags, which is over 2,000 pounds of food. BHP continues to support these children whether their school is open for in-person classes or not.
Dollar Value
Just a few dollars donated feeds one child over a weekend. For your $25 donation, you create food security for one child for a month. With a $100 donation, you can sponsor a student for a full semester’s worth of weekend food. Just $250 sponsors a student for the whole school year.
Grant Use
Baltimore Hunger Project will use their grant funds to purchase the food and supplies needed to fill the weekend food bags that the volunteers deliver to the children.
